EXPOSURE OF INFANTS TO OPEN AIR

It is quite common that some parents are worried that the baby will catch a cold and thus have the concept that infant should be placed in a room with thick curtains drawn and windows closed.

Although it is important to keep the infant from getting a cold, it is equally important to ensure that the room the baby is in is well ventilated. So the baby's room should be large and with good air circulation whereby fresh air is frequently renewed. If the weather permit and the child is healthy, you may take the infant into the open air at specific period for not too long a period. However, you should not allow your maid to loiter around too long and exposing the infant unecessarily as this is usually the source of all evils as the child is unduely exposured.

If the weather is cold and wet, you should not exposure your child to the damp condition of the enviroment and it is better to stay home.

What we should not do in infant care.

While taking care of a baby or infant, it is important for us to note what are the things that we should never do to a child. It is very common and natural that when a baby cry, we try to shake the baby to stop him from crying. This is not a good practice as shaking the baby too vigorously will damage the child brain.

When we feed the baby while the baby is crying, we should not force food or water into the baby mouth as this will hurt the baby. Once the baby have enough, the baby will natural stop sucking, so do not overfeed the baby.

It is important that we keep away all small and sharp object from the baby as a child will just pick these up and may place them into their mouth or hurt himself. So be mindful of this.

We should also put away all other items like medicine, moth balls or small inedible item away as kid is very prone to putting things into their mouth.

When bathing the baby, do it slowly, always tap a little water on the baby to get him prepare before placing him down and avoid having water entering the baby's ear.

As the baby grow, the baby will learn to turn, so it is very dangerous to put baby near the edge of the bed.

Keep the child out of reach of the kitchen as kitchen is a place where most accident can happen. You should keep hot water away from the child, no wire, sockets and electrical instruments should be placed near a baby.

We should not dress the baby with tight clothing that prevent his movement.

Try not to smoke in the house as baby need fresh air. You should also try to a void having pats dogs or cat etc around as baby is sensitive to the fur. If you have a pat, you should get a anti rabies injections for the pets and keep the pat clear at all time.

Cleanliness is very important for baby, do not allow your baby to crawl on the soil. You should also avoid bringing the baby to hospital wards to visits patients or to crowded or dusty areas.

Stomach And Bowel Disorders A Breast Feed Infant Will Encounter At The Period Of Weaning.

At about six months old, a child is going through a period of weaning and will start off with some semi solid food. During this period, you may notice that some breast feed baby will experience stomach and bowel disorders. We should try not to have the child weaning too early or too suddenly as this will disturb the child system. The other reason for stomach and bowel disorder is due to over-feeding the infant or introducing not suitable food to the baby. This could occasionally lead to baby having diarrhoea.

The digestive system of the baby is still very delicate, so as you supplement breast milk with artificial food, do so slowly and let the child adapt to the change. Remember you should introduce artificial food slowly and slowly reduce the dependency on breast milk.
At this period, the child may also at the teething stage. So it is also very common that teething may give rise to diarrhoea. It may not necessary due to weaning that causes bowels disorder. Do observe the situation and if severe you make need to consult a doctor.

The Stools Of A Healthy vs Unwell Child.

During the initial first few motions after the child is born, his/her motion is dark in colour, so you do not need to worry. However, after taking a few feed of breast mlk from the mother, the baby system will be cleansed and the bowel will look more normal with a light yellow colour.

This light yellow colour motion is like a thin mustard and it has no or little smell. The motion is usually smooth like a paste and do ot what lumps. The baby should pass motion easily without much pain. For a healthy child, you can expect the child to pass motion two or three times a day. When the motion is released, it should be release very naturally without having much wind. As the child grow, the frequency of daily motion will reduced to once a day or sometime two days once. The motion will also become more solid and the colour become darker.

For a breast feed baby, the motion is usually more watery and more often daily while a baby feed on infant formular the motion is more solid and less frequent. In the event that you notice the baby stool differ from the above description, this could be a sign that the baby may be unwell. What you should observe is the texture, colour, smell and how the motion is release as a indication if the child is unwell. If the child is unwell, the stool will be released with forces and together with huge amount of wind. The baby also cry a lot more than usual. So if you notice any different in the motion, this could be the first sign the child is unwell.

Mothers' Role In Combating Disease Of Children

Even after consulting a doctor, no medical treatment can be complete without proper monitoring and administration of the medicine to the patient.

Breathing Pattern Of A Healthy Vs Unwell Child

For most experience mothers, they will notice that the breathing pattern of a healthy and unwell child differ. It is from this simple function that you can easily tell if your child is well.

In the case of a healthy child, he breathes in a systematic and consistent manner, quietly at regular interval with little or no much effort. In the case a child is unwell, his breathe will be quickened and hurried and noticeable audible as there may be inflammation of the respiratory system.

This could be symptoms that the child is with a common cold or cough. Observe the child breathing pattern for possible nose blockage or a soft coughing sound made by the infant. The child need prompt medical attention once you confirm the child is unwell and immediate medical treatment is needed. The earlier the detection and treatment the fastest the child will recover to his normal healthy self.
